Another suggestion at this point BONE DRY to me means items I have dried
for about
two weeks (best to allow them to dry on a piece of newsprint - it moves
as the pot shrinks)
also put a date on the newsprint so you know when it began to dry, with
students finishing
at all different times this helps keep track so you don't fire too
early. On the 1st or bisque
firing I prop the lid of the kiln up about 1 1/2 inches and fire on the
1 setting at least over
night. This allows for extra drying of the clay just in case, then I
close the lid and continue
to fire the bisque ware. I've been doing this for years and it pays off
in not losing many
pieces. But it takes two days for a bisque fire. Good luck, Woody in KC
