Hi All;
On the topic of business people running a school. Well, I work at Caravel
Academy. A private school built, owned and operated by the "Peoples Family"
they are a Building/Contractor family with the emphasis on "Family" The only
thing that is run like a business is the Business/Finance office. There is a
Board of Education That is the whole People's family plus administrators and
parent advocates.
They are wonderful people to work for and because of their ties to the
community, they have many supporters. When I took this job 2 years ago they
were in the middle of the "FineArts fund raiser" and asked me for a shopping
list! WOW, Did I die and go to heaven?! They want all of teachers and the
classrooms to by on the cutting edge of technology and they're very
supportive of new ideas and change to curriculum that move forward. We just
celebrated our 20th year. Many of the faculty members have been there 10-18
years. The School offers Pre-k to 12th grade and we have about 1100 students.
Do I sound like an Ad Agent? Probably, But I love my job and the folks who
sign my paycheck.
If it's done right, running a school like a business affords the students
multiple possibilities through co-ops, job sharing and internships. Then
everyone wins.
