One would think given the current climate in our educational system
nationwide--substitute shortages, lack of qualified new teachers, lack of
incentives to attract young leaders to the teaching profession, violence in
schools and homes etc., etc., etc.--a country as advanced as ours would
feel compelled to produce leaders who could figure out how to solve this
problem! I also feel it's time to stop picking on the teachers who have
remained in the system to try to make a difference and place some
responsibility back on the family. Perhaps one solution would be to take
the control away from government and place the education of our youth in
the hands of private enterprise to manage like most successful businesses
are managed! I know these sound like simple solutions to a very
complicated problem, but we seem to be mired in a situation that keeps
spiraling downward--even with the isolated successes we experience in our
classrooms. Where are we headed with this problem?
Concerned about our future!!!!!
