Well, I am taking this time to decide exactly what I want to do for the
last three weeks of the semester when we return. I am torn between a paper
quilt (I don't want to lose my sanity trying to teach them all to sew) and a
large group sculpture. I am weary about the sculpture because I am not sure
the students will stay on task long enough to make the project successful.
However, I know they will try to riot when we do the quilt. They have been
itching to do a sculpture. I am thinking I might still do the paper quilt -
and not spend too much time doing the preliminary work. Then with the
remaining time I would fill in with quickie miniture sculptures. (Have no
idea what.)
Funny thing about this sculpture thing. Last week the students were
complaining about not doing "real" art. (Opposed to "fake" art - whatever
that is!) They said "real" art was drawing - drawing whatever they choose
and then get frustrated, throw the paper at me and say they can't draw. (How
quickly they forget!) However, as I noted before, they want to do a
sculpture. Aah, the joy of junior high...
