my response to tracing

It was encouraging to see all of the elementary teachers respond
that they do not allow students to trace. I teach in a middle school
where half of my students came to me from an elementary program
in which they trace a pattern for nearly every project. The other half
come from a program that allows minimal tracing (more of a step-
by-step- draw-it-this-way). It is very frustrating getting middle
school students to draw on their own when they come from
programs that encouraged tracing. To all of you elementary
teacher, "Keep up the good work!".

Now we have done some restructuring---all of our fourth and fifth
graders now have the teacher who allowed tracing. I do not know
what my classes will be like in the future. I guess time will tell.
