Is there a classroom teacher or grade level group of teachers you can team
up with, and schedual a field trip with them for the children on their
grade level? Does your district have a grant writer, who could help you
find a grant to pay for the expences of the field trip (bus transportation,
admission, and sub)? Does you area museum know why you don't come to the
museum? I know my boss is working with the school district to liberalize
their field trip rules. Check with the museum, and find out what their
regulations are regarding maxium number of students at a time, and how many
chaperones are required, before planning a field trip. I had a school call
and tell me they were bringing 60 kids on one trip. We only have room for
30 at a time. We worked it out, but it would have been easier if they asked
first. I know the Fine Arts Museum likes to break the elementary children
into smaller groups, because of the ceramics gallery. They are discouraging
k-3rd field trips at SAMFA during the ceramics competition this year. Those
grades will be asked to come to the ceramics exhibition at CAM, because our
settup will be more kid friendly. We are using lower table sized pedestals
easier for younger children to view, less likely to be bumped over.
