I applaud your response for its zeal but reject the original premise of the
acceptability of tracing in the classroom as a viable art function. That you
use it as a tool to help a student with learning problems is certainly
acceptable practice... almost anything is acceptable for the special needs
student. When you address limited technical accuracy and skills acquisition
in the same sentence I fail to see a broad application of tracing to general
classroom teaching... my point in the first place. I am in awe of your
testing and the impressive curriculum you deliver, familiar and full of
challenge. Yet nowhere would I expect to find "tracing" supplanting practice
and hard work as esteem builders. Rock on.
