I study Faith Ringgold and multicultural art wht my 4th graders. We examine
her quilts, talk about patterns (math) and then create our own "You Can Fly"
pillows using fabric crayons on white paper and then transfering onto fabric.
We then tie-dye another fabfic for the back of the pillow (Ringgold's
caftans). The kids love the pillow (what you can be when you grow up if you
dream and strive for it). It is also a great lesson on values, persistance,
and of an African-ameerican woman artist.
