Its a wonderful book indeed! I read the book to my elementary kids. There
is a wonderful point of departure where the kids can make up a new ending
and invent interesting creatures. I believe it is when she returns to him.
In any case, my students were asked to combine 2 animals we know of - an
elephant + a unicorn = elecorn or uniphant. Then they drew the creature
using pastels. For rich colors (students love this) I provided cups of
water for dipping. Their drawing turned out fantastic! To my regret, this
was before the days of my digital camera and I have no record of these
pictures - except a few 3 x 5 (35mm) photos that are probably stuck
together somewhere in my file cabinet
