Enough about old ties.
Order new white silk ties from Dharma for about $4.00 a pop. Seal the top
with a light coat of watered down gesso before painting in acrylic or
fabric paint to keep the "hand" of the silk rather than turning it into a
board.

Or don't seal, and silk screen with fabric paint.
