We are in the revising our education program including workshops for
teachers (Both Art Teachers and teachers in other subjects).

I've proposed that we have an Art Teacher Gallery Talk at the beginning of
each new exhibit. This would include: a brief gallery talk by the educator
or director, printed packets of materials about the artist(s), a list of
related websites (printed or on disk), time to brainstorm with each other
(and our educator), and draw up their own lesson plans. We could provide
refreshments in the classroom. Because some teachers in the 18 counties we
serve might be traveling 2 hours to get to us (over two lane blacktop
highways with large deer population), we would probably schedule this early
in the afternoon on Saturdays, and provide refreshments. We could also work
with the Education Service Center to schedule the same day as some other
workshops, then some schools would provide transportation for their
teachers. We would also ask the ESC Region XV to provide credit to the
teachers for attending. We would ask the collections manager about setting
up slides of upcoming exhibits, with dates, and artist information. It would
depend on our contract with the artist or lending organization whether or
not we could release the information.

What do you think? If you lived in our area would you think this type of
workshop was worth your time? Also I would love to hear about any workshops
(museum or other) that you found enriching? If you know someone we could
contact then even better.

Thanks,
Kimberly Herbert (kimberly)
