Happy Chanukah! Thanks for the reminder. Chanukah is really early this
year (tonight is the 4th night already!). This time of year has many
holidays that need to be recognized if we are to be truly sensitive to
multiculturalism. Let's not forget Ramadan and Kwanzaa either. Check
KidLink Multicultural Calendar to get a glimpse of the cultural
diversity that we can embrace....including Boxing Day, Winter Solstice,
Emperor's Birthday, Imam's Birthday, Father's Day, in addition to
examples of the multitude of ways in which Christmas and Chanukah are
celebrated around the world. http://www.kidlink.org:80/KIDPROJ/MCC/
have a monthly bulletin board on which I post all the holidays for a
given month...it's my way of showing the kids that all cultures have
celebrations and that many cultures celebrate similar events even if
they are celebrated during different times of the year.
