I have an old Skutt kiln. I fire bisque and glaze regularly. Five years ago
I had the Envirovent installed. There are small holes in the lid and the
bottom of the kiln and a fan underneath which draws air through the kiln and
vents it to outside. It has made firing and cooling quicker. The old kiln
sitter which uses cones is fine. I manually bring the temperature up, but it
shuts itself off when the cone bends. I have no complaints and have
suggested the same for the new high school which will open next year. (When I
first began teaching at this school I was astounded that the kiln was not
vented. It took me a year to convince administration of the necessity.)
