My middle school students were intriqued by the story of King Henry VIII
and his six wives. We focused on his court painter Hans Holbein the
Younger and talked about the possible difficult position he was in when
sent to paint a portrait of one of King's future wives. Does he please
the King and make it very realistic (so the King can decide if he wants
to marry her) and does he try to flatter the woman (4th wife, I think -
I forget her name). Sure wish we could know how Holbein felt about his
position as couirt painter AND how he felt about King Henry and ALL his
marriages. Anyone know of a good source for more biographical info on
Hans Holbein?
