Thank you everyone for your wonderful ideas on what to do on my crummy
field trip situation. I decided to "change" my room into a museum. I put up
black paper on the chalkboards and lined the tables with black paper. I made
a "wall" so students had to walk through a "hallway" to get into the
"museum". On the tables were pictures of art pieces (through the local art
ed place).
As the students walked in they received a ticket into the museum. I gave
them a list of descriptions ranging in difficulty. The students then had to
match the description with the picture. The top three winners received
prizes. Then we had refreshments -donuts and oj in the morning, cookies and
pop in the afternoon.
The kids loved it. They were miffed because they did not get to go on
the trip, but they loved being to look at art and have a good time. The
principal walked in during a class. The kids did not receive her well, yet
they behaved. I was so proud of them - and so happy that it went over really
well! :)
