Try some paper mache. They love to work with their hands and it is
pretty cheap. Have them make people or animals using a plastic
container as the main body part. You need to have newspaper, paper
mache glue of some sort, (Wallpaper paste works, but it must be
refrigerated at night.) scissors, masking tape and paints. Have them
draw using different media and use different subjects. Have them
create their own comic strips, they love that!!! I also teach high
school, but all day. Do not let them imtimidate you or your life will
be miserable. I treat them as young adults and require respect and
give it in return. Mine are currently practicing their paint mixing
skills and painting skills, period, on a tinted color wheel. They are
unusually calm. I think it makes them concentrate and they are too
busy to be rowdy. C.
