The messages about vandalism and other evil acts that have recently
appeared have been really upsetting. I wonder to what extent this
behaviour may be caused by a general lack of beauty in the lives of the
perpetrators. Thomas Jefferson claimed that if we made our cities
beautiful, their inhabitants would be better citizens. That is probably
too simple, but I think there's something to it.
Ron and I will begin another walk soon after the New Year on the topic of
artistic expression and community. Maybe this question will come up there.
I look forward, in any case, to having some more topics to discuss with
all of you.
Happy Holidays! Marcia
