I have been bewildered the last days over all the grief and sadness that
has fallen upon many of you on this list. The death of a student, the
horrible vandalism and even rape. It somehow made me feel more than before
that we are not just a listserve but we are all human beings behind it with
our daily lives; happiness and sorrow. I am oftentimes reminded of how few
and far away we here in Iceland are but when I here of these things I feel
kind of thankful for having such a peaceful life,so to speak. Of course we
have problems in this country too, but the fact we are only 260 thousand
people while you are 220 or 230 million makes obviously a great difference.
I just want to say that I feel for you all in your hard experience and
sadness, but life has the wonder of continuing and someday soon this will
be part of history and not hurt as very much. But what we must focus on is
to make this world a better place for our young ones and I really think
that is where art helps and therefor all of you that are doing the
difficult but wonderful job of teaching art. I personally think it is the
greatest job. Now this has become too much I guess so just very warm wishes
to all of you in sorrow or upsetness hang in there tomorrow will bring
light.
Regards from the far north where the aurora borealis makes you feel nothing
can be more beautiful.
