I'd like to respond to being told to shut up on this subject, and being
told that, "Life has far more to offer." Art is life, and life is embodied
in art. Therefore, everything in life can potentially find expression
through various art media. I am certain that many art educators realize
that the children bring their life experience into the art room. Who knows
what will find direct or indirect expression? I TRUST that sensitive
educators will take advantage of opportunities to help children via art, or
at least be aware that self expression in the art room may be serving
several purposes. I HOPE that the majority of art educators exercise more
professionalism than was evident in the note I received.
