This discussion brings back memories....
I was put in a first grade classroom right out of college (with a degree in
art, and most of my art ed classes). After 5 years an Art Teaching position in
grades 3-5 opened in my district. I was so happy to finally teach art. The
down side of it was, I was accustomed to the mindset and needs of first
graders... which worked ok with the third graders, so-so with the 4th graders,
and not at all with the 5th graders, who gave me a major reality check!
The teacher you mention has moved up from younger grades and seems to not have
adjusted to the abilities and independence of high school students. Has anyone
modeled teaching at this level for her? Has she visited other high school art
teachers' classes to see what they are doing? Does she have a mentor?
