Re: 2D to 3D with grades 7&8

I've done something similar to Kathy's idea with my 6th graders except they
glue white paper strips to a white paper base - creating a 3D relief with
loops, accordian steps,etc.all intertwined. Then ( after lessons on shading)
the students draw their paper relief with pencil. Another fun idea is drawing
a pile of marshmellows. The cylinder shape lends itself nicely,even when
randomly sitting in a pile,and the kids can concentrate on the shading
