I'm not sure how your block program would be arranged but from my experience
it didn't work well. I am currently a new art teacher and when I was in 11th
grade in Florida my school switched to a block program. We were classified by
the teachers and students as the "Honors" the "regular" and the "Drop out
prevention". It depended on your G.P.A as to what group you were placed. I
was placed in the honors block because my overall G.P.A was 3.5 and that
entitled me to honors English, honors Chemistry, honors History and honors
Algerbra two. Because I was in this block, I thrown into the algebra two
honors course with out the preparation I needed. My grades in the other
classes were great but my school system assumed if I was good at the other
classes I would be able to fit right in in the advanced math class. Wrong!
The block program labeled kids in my school and almost none of the students
were happy. I know it was the first year and we probably needed to wait until
all the bumps in the road were cleared. (hopefully they are now) but at the
time many kids were confused, labeled and placed where they did not belong.
I wish you luck.
