To Sara ONeill:

One project I've done with first graders and endangered species is to have
them choose their animal and write to them. We make folding books kind of
like the Jolly Postman, enclosing little postcards to the whales, cheetahs,
turtles..... I carry with me addresses of people working with different
kinds of animals, so we then mail the kid's work to a whale researcher, or
some other group. In some cases, kids have done the adoption projects,
sending funds to help their favorite animal(s).

I have a handout kind of explanation for these "Bookelopes" if you are
interested. Ron Hirschi, PO 899, Hadlock, WA 98339
