Arts Genesis is a co-sponsor of the China-US Conference on Education in
Beijing, July 9-13. This conference has been organized by Global
Interactions, Inc. and China International Conference Center for Science
and Technology. We will be the largest gathering of US and Chinese
educators ever to come together to exchange ideas and plan for the future
education of children in both our countries. To receive conference
information and registration forms contact me or global; or
visit their web site: The program includes
tours and events in Beijing.
I am inviting people with an interest in art to join me after our studies
in Beijing for an outstanding opportunity to see parts of China that are
known for their beauty and ancient history. Participants will travel
together, with others interested in art and art education. This program
opens unique possibilities for you to learn and develop skills and insights
about art and culture in China.
We will fly from Beijing to Xian for 2 days, seeing both the world famous
Terra Cotta warriors and the remains of a Neanderthal community that was
apparently run by women. We will learn something of China's minority
groups, visiting the city's bazaar, mosque and folk art center.
From Xian, we will fly to Guilin, said to possess a beauty unmatched by
any place else in the world. Surrounded by splendid hills rising straight
out of the ground, its beautiful rocks and fantastic caves have delighted
artists throughout China's history. In the mist and rain, the moist air
becomes a transparent curtain, shading the landscape into a dreamlike, gray
blue panorama of floating mountains and cascading waterfalls. Scenery along
the Li River is depicted in many of the oldest and most famous traditional
screens and paintings. A day on the 83 kilometer boat ride down the Li from
Guilin to Yangshuo, described as a trip through a natural art gallery, will
afford us opportunities for photography and painting with traditional
calligraphy materials.
After 2 days in Guangxi, we will fly to Shanghai to spend our final two
days in one of the world's great cities. The old Chinese city, to the south
of the Bund, in an ancient walled fishing town. Modern Shanghai grew up
around it. Its maze of alleys is always crowded with tourists from all over
China, and throughout the world. At the center of the Old City are the
Chenghuang Temple and the Yu Garden, with the Huxining Teahouse, said to be
the model for the design on "willow-pattern" china. The Bridge of Nine
Turns zigzags to make it difficult for evil spirits to get across. The Yu
Garden is a classical Chinese garden with over 30 pavilions linked by a
maze of corridors and bridges. Shanghai is home to some of China's most
interesting artists, and contains China's first world class art museum, on
a par with the Prado and Lovre.
I will work with anyone interested in joining us to be sure your
particular interests are honored. We plan to visit schools and galleries,
learning about current art and art education. We also plan time for
drawing, painting, meditation and Tai Chi, becoming immersed in China's
traditional spirit and beauty.
I am very excited to be able to offer you this extraordinary opportunity
to meet and learn with me from our Chinese counterparts and tour guides.
If you are interested, or can make suggestions, please contact me.
