Strategies for funding outside artists to come into schools

As the Illinois arts Council is developing a new strategy for presenting
Arts Education funding opportunities to schools and community
organizations in 1996-97, I am interested in hearing from anyone who is on
this listserve regarding the following questions:

1. How far in advance can you plan staff training and curriculum development
projects using outside consultants and/or artists? Are most decisions made
the year prior to the project's implementation or is it advantageous to wait
until September to plan?

2. What sources of funds and approx. how many dollars are made available
in your school district to meet the needs of Teacher Training and/or
curriculum development in the Arts.

3. In regards to your availablity to Artist-in-residence programs, would
planning and development of a grant proposal to fund an artist project
approx. 6 to 8 weeks prior to its implementation be difficult? When is the
best time of the year for you to write a grant for special funding to meet
a specific curricular need?
