CHEERS for your reservations in using art history as motivation for studio
work. Your comments have given me much to think about that bears close
scrutiny. I agree that motivating students from their own experience has
the capacity to stimulate more student-relevant production. I also feel
that using art history as a prompt for production dilutes the discipline of
art history into being a handmaiden for production, and I am uncomfortable
with this idea as well. I applaud your reservations and will communicate
them to my colleagues for further discussion. Thanks for your
thought-provoking discussion.
