just finished a clay whistle project with my 8th graders and they loved
it to pieces!! take a small amount of clay and pinch out a hole inside
(about l/4"thick) add a top and seal shut. pinch out a mouthpiece area.
get a popcicle stick and poke into the end by the mouthpiece making the
end wall flat and smooth. now put the stick into the mouthpiece aiming
directly under the top wall. Keeping the stick in place in the
mouthpiece use a fettling knife to make a sharp angle of the clay against
the stick. clean up all edges and it should blow. i really want to make
a diagram to make this obvious--let me know if this doesn't make any
sense and send my your mailing address.
