<<Sharon,
Could you explain the paper casting?>>

I guess it's more like an embossing technique than casting, but we were
doing papermaking and I had all these styrofoam egg cartons around....

On a whim, I had the kids cut simple designs out of the styrofoam and glue
the layers together. This is the link to the image I posted yesterday:

We mixed recycled copier paper in the blender as we'd done before when doing
regular papermaking and when we were ready to remove it from the screen, we
carefully placed the pulpy new sheet of paper over each styrofoam form and
let it air dry on a smooth, flat surface. We couldn't use too many layers
of styrofoam because it would cause the paper pulp to separate, but when it
was dry the forms simply popped off of the back of the paper. We mounted
the sheets to pieces of mat board:

I thought I had more pictures but if I do I can't find them. I've got a ton
of pics from last year that I haven't had a chance to develop into pages!

Anyhow, this was a spur of the moment type of project and it helped keep the
kids busy while a couple at a time were busy just making regular sheets of
handmade paper.

I'm going to try it second semester with my advanced students and I'm
anticipating some pretty cool results! :-)
