My partner at school has his sculpture classes use construction
foam--it's about 1" thick and used for insulation. They cut out shapes
with a hot wire and hot glue & wire them together in tall airy shapes,
then coat them with some plaster of paris--sort of a loose drippy
coating. The paint them black and then use colors or metallic pigments.
 They look fabulous!
