Over the years I have invested in those "self healing" cutting mats.
They are really nice to have and last FOREVER. I bought them in the
18x24 size. For long straight cuts, I put two tables beside each other
with a slight gap, use a t-square, and pull the knife through the foam
core in the narrow gap between the tables. Works like a charm and no
need for mat board underneath that way.
