I have said this before but this time it is for real. Now that
Texas has passed the rule all TEKS are required in all areas,
the art teachers are ready to write that curriculum. It is on
our shoulders to do this before the districts buys someones's
and tells us we have to follow it. We want our own, written by
us. I have a team of teachers who are meeting with me.
Any suggestions on where to begin and how to format it would be
greatly appreciated. I am thinking taking the TEKS, looking at
what should be accopmplished at each level. I have had some say
begin with K and others say begin with high school so lower
levels can work with it.
What do districts do to allow for the lapse in middle school,
such as a student only taking it in 6th, not taking in 7 and 8.
Then when they get to ART I, we have students who have taken,
one, two, three, or not at all in middle school. I w0uld love
to hear fromt he TEXAS people. I did do one thing, I have what
we call ART I Studio, for those who had it 7th and 8th and have
submitted a portforlio to high school teachers, that being me.
