The preceding layer needs to be melted briefly (fused) and then allowed to
cool before adding the next layer. This allows one layer to adhere to the
next.

Encaustic mixture is nine parts beeswax to one part damar crystals...this is
melted and strained through cheesecloth. In the workshop I took, the
instructor melted it in a hot pot. We then poured what we needed into small
cans (such as cat food cans) and added a glob of oil paint to color it.
