I am fascinated by symbols and find it interesting ( coincidental?) that
I just read
an interesting take on the peace symbol. Anyway, when we talk about
symbols in class, I stress that many symbols are cross cultural and that
is what makes it so interesting. Along the same lines as pyramids- that
they're found on three separate continents in rock form and on almost
all continents in earthen form.. The swastika( as we commonly refer to
it) has been around since antiquity, is a very spiritual symbol and
became 'bastardized' for lack of a better term, by Hitler who was aware
of its spiritual origins. You will find it in China, Tibet, Native
American, Greek as well as other ancient cultures. I love the fact that
the same symbol shows up in different places As does the spiral
symbol- literally found on all continents... Also. that people would
carve symbols on their dwellings, wear them, etc.
I love learning about symbols!. Betsy
