I did some ArtsEdNet Talk snooping and found it was BJ Berquist who posted
the gang symbols links.

Here is a general school dress code rule:
"Gang Symbolism -- Students are not allowed to wear garments, jewelry, or
other forms of symbolism associated with gangs or gang membership. Gang
colors and all bandanas are forbidden on school property."

Here are some sites for local gang symbols (these are Texas- but are pretty
much across the country):
http://www.ci.houston.tx.us/citygovt/mayor/antigang/symbols/
http://www.velocity.net/~acekc/gangsymbols.htm

To research some of these symbols try the Anti-Defamation League home
page:
http://www.adl.org/ Search for gangs and symbols.

Here are a couple of informative sites:
http://www.upsd.wednet.edu/UPSD/CHS/ganghand.html
http://www.naperville.il.us/gangs.htm
http://polksheriff.org/library/gangs/identifying.html
http://www.elca.org/dcm/youth/resource/helpsheets/gangs.html

BJ's Goal:
>> My primary concern is to allow the artroom to be
>> a SAFE PLACE FOR ALL regardless of social, political, religious, or
>> racial affiliation or status.

I did find the "folks" is used by gangs..... Since I call all of you -
"Folks".... I guess we are all member of the Art Ed Gang.
