Years ago at my old school, I did an inexpensive jewelry project making belt
buckles using Brass sheet rectangles, and etching. I used the etching acid
from Radio Shack....and if you draw your design on the brass with a permanant
magic marker ( this creates a resist...yes permanant magic marker!) and then
tape the back with masking tape...put it into the acid bath. It etches your
design. We polished using brass brushes and sand paper (for the sides). We
welded (using a torch) on a wire "loop" and pin for the belt. We did this
with my Jr. High kids ...small class...but very successful.
Later I thought if I ever did it again, I would pull a print from the sheet
metal before polishing it all up...for an added bonus.!
