"Africa is often misunderstood and stereotyped in
schools- there is so much beauty and diversity."

Dear Melissa

Thank you from me too. I sometimes feel that non-Africans tend to think
of Africa in stereotypes. The perception exists that it is the huge
homogenous continent where everything conforms to the Western idea of
what Africa looks and feels like. Things are different from village to
village, never mind country to country.

I often get asked for Zulu masks and then have to go into a long
sociological explanation of why the Zulus do not have masks. people have
the idea that because masks are common in West Africa they must be
common in South Africa.

BTW has anyone ever seen tinga-tinga painting from Tanzania?

Happy holidays
