painting with toothpicks

I have my 4th grade students painting with toothpicks, and they are actually
ENJOYING it...

We are finishing our Illuminated letters, and contrary to what I told them
MANY times, they drew very small designs on their letters that needed to be
painted.

I thought "I'll teach them a lesson, and make them use toothpicks to paint
these little designs" (I have no small--that small anyway--paintbrushes).

but they like it! Go figure. They've never been this quiet, or worked this
hard before...
