Woody made a comment about using laquer thinner, which I could not let pass
without a reminder about how extermely toxic and carcinogenic laquer thinner
is.

When I attended a local community college, I studied silk screen printing.
We sometimes finished cleaning our screens with laquer thinner. The prof
had us wear heavy blue gloves and do the cleaning outside where there was
always a breeze. One day I stood there working for too long and began to
get really bad stomach cramps. I probably had brain damage from laquer
thinner too, not to mention skin problems on my hands and two rounds of
breast cancer.

We used laquer thinner for image transfer at San Francisco State U. but the
teacher made us buy respirator breathing masks. Not the little white masks,
but the full-fledged masks with cartridges in them.

I am planning to never use laquer thinner with my high school students
(famous last words). If they want to hurt themsleves with toxic materials,
they can go up to the chem lab and ask the teacher there about laquer
thinner. See what he (or she) says.
