Brenda, I've taught 14 years public schools and 2 years private Christian.
I'm back at public, because of insurance and multiple preps I would have had
at the Christian school. I loved the Christian school staff, parent
involvement. The administration and school board were always telling and
showing us teachers how much they appreciated us. The kids on the whole were
well behaved and if I needed a supply all I did was ask a parent and it was
donated. I did have an art budget, though not as good as the Public schools.
If I had stayed at the Christian school, with my two kids tuition break I
would have come out salary wise the same as what I'm getting now at Public.
But, my husband, a teacher, with the Public schools, is diabetic and we
needed better health insurance. I may still go back to Christian school,
money is not everything and like you said, cuts are coming and we know what
goes first. Take it to God in prayer, just wish I always listened to Him.
Merry Christmas.
Renee

Subject: Question on Art Position
I was wondering, how rare art jobs at private schools are?
What I mean is, are they hard to find?
I have been offered a position and I am wondering if I should jump on it
as it looks like my job is shaky due to lack of enrollment.
The education there is first class and my kids may never have a chance
like this again (since I can not afford that kind of tuition).
But my son is ADHD and had a bad experience at a rigid Christian school 3
years ago (he's 10).
Our local schools are not an option.
We have a "homeschool school" nearby that teaches a "classic" curriculum
which offers core subjects like Language arts, Saxon math, Science, Latin,
etc.. It meets 4 days a week for 4 hours and the homework and
extracurricular is up to me.
It's not accredited but few homeschoolers care about that.
Anyway if anyone has an opinion, I'd sure like to hear it.
Our situation is getting quite stressful for all of us.
Brenda
