Brenda,
I have never taught at a private school but I did do some of my student
teaching at one and it was wonderful. Class size was small. Great parent
involvement, and you could expect alot from the kids. The salary is usually
not that good compared to school districts. If you have kids to go to that
school you can kind of mentally add that to your salary (a nice perk).
Now, on the other hand.....I also taught at a school once where one of my
son's was going and it was not a positive experience because the teachers
felt at liberty to drop by at any time and let me know how my son was doing.
He was in a "weird" faze at the time. Most teachers were great but it only
takes one to make your life a lot more stressful because you have to deal
with the teacher as your peer, co-worker and also as the teacher of your
child. It can complicate things.
Those are a few thoughts off the top of my head. If salary is good for you
and your children would benefit, it might be worth trying. As far as how hard
to get these kind of jobs, I think it depends on what part of the country you
are living in.
Good luck with your decision. Happy holidays!
