defending the "tight" painter

I am going to bravely stick my neck out and defend the "tight" painter.
Maybe, just maybe, there is a place for tight painters in the world. (I
know ... it's a very tight spot) I am embarrassed to say that I am a tight
painter and never thought I needed a support group. I enjoy painting small,
highly detailed little paintings. My teachers gave me lots of opportunities
such as the ones you are suggesting, to paint big and splashy and I'm all
for encouraging students to work this way BUT here I am, forty years later
and I still paint my own tight little way. Now please don't make any
Freudian assumptions about the rest of my life based on how I paint.
How about showing the HS student some Persian miniatures or some illuminated
manuscripts? There are lots of children's book authors who paint small
highly detailed works.
Have a happy holiday and don't get too stressed!
