"Color and Human Response" by Carlton Wagner is a book I read years ago.
Red was the color boy babies respond to first. However, all babies
responded first to black shapes against a white background. We know black
is not a "color," but the contrast was what caught the eye of the babies in
the studies. I remember that Gerber (?) created crib mobiles for babies
that had black and white shapes. Perhaps one of the giants in baby
accoutrements will have some good research to dig into.
