When I took kids to portfolio days in Minneapolis, the instructors said they
really look for drawings done from observation- not copied from other
sources. Hope that helps.

Subject: Art School Portfolios
Folks, I need your help again.
I have three Senior students who want to go to art schools.
Two of them have not taken any art classes because they are
in band. The other one has only taken the Fundamentals
class and Printmaking. They want my help in preparing a
portfolio. I have told them to include a variety of work;
to include observation drawings, designs emphasizing
different art elements, a variety of media: pencil,
charcoal, pastels, etc. Is there anything I've missed?
Usually the ones who have been with me for the four years
have enough variety and quantity that they have a lot to
choose from. But these kids think they can put this
together in no time. HELP!
Myriam
