I seem to remember doing a quilt many years ago with elementary students
where we did the drawing on muslin with crayons and then painted dye and
ironed between sheets of newsprint. Also, there is a fake batik stuff that
the elem just sent to us but I gave it to the teacher of crafts. It comes in
a squeeze bottle. Then you dip in dye. I could get the name if you're
interested.
