Teaching Books

I wonder if any of you could reccomend some good reference books. Nothing I
have looked at comes close to Viktor Lowenfelds "Creative and Mental
Growth". I am sure there must be more current titles along these lines that
can help me.

My wife and I run after school "Art Clubs" for 5-10yr olds. Although not
teachers ourselves we are very much into giving children access to a
genuinly creative experience. I personally spend a lot of time explaining to
parents the phylosophy behind our "Art Clubs" (which has changed a lot since
joining this list). Parents are so used to being handed something by the
children at the end of a school day, that they sometimes find it a little
suprising that at the end of one of our sessions a child may have produced
very little.

I am well aware of how open minded this list is, but for some reason I feel
compelled to explain that although not teachers we are also not frauds. I
won't bore you with our credentials (unless you insist) but I thought being
in such respected company I should justify myself.

I am learning all the time, luckily we are not confined to a curriculum. As
long as the children are happy so are the parents. For so many "Art Clubs"
in our area however, this means a lot of everyone one going through a
process to produce some cutsie nik-nak, something we are dead against. Hence
the need for more quality reading material.

Hope you can help.

Respectfully

Steve
