<<BTW- 2 weeks- Wow- On the 5th grade level (40 min. once a week) it's =
taking us forever... >>

I'm pretty amazed at how quickly the kids are going with this, but I =
guess I made it clear that we had a short time to do it. Usually =
they'll just drag through projects....

Yeah, I bet it's taking a long time doing this with elementary kids! I =
have my students for about 50 minutes every day and that makes a big, =
big difference. Plus, I've got a couple of kids who are doing more =
elaborate masks (which have moved *well* beyond "masks"--one kid has =
cast 11 hands and one arm so far and has asked for additional boards...) =
and they're coming in after school to have more time to work.

I've posted 3 finished masks but a lot more should be done early this =
week.

Someone on the list suggested using plastic wrap instead of either =
vaseline or damp paper towels to form a barrier between the skin and the =
plaster. I want to try this to see how well it works, just to try to =
make this even safer--though, thank goodness, no one has had any =
problems with the way we did it.

Again, the thing that has amazed me is the diversity and the amount of =
thinking and planning that's been involved. Also, I've found that some =
of the "I don't really like art" kids do much, much better when we're =
focusing on sculpture rather than on drawing or painting. I've seen =
this each year--that any sort of 3-D work captures their attention and =
brings out more creative thought and enthusiasm than when we're drawing =
or painting. Interesting.
