Macs VS IBMs

Hi all,
Ok, my face be red here....this is one more case of just kinda reading
those past debates but not really tuning in, cause it didn't seem to apply.
Please help me out....I am pitching a digital darkroom course to our board.
Our district is resolutely IBM...with the exception of a certain MS teacher
who did massive fundraising and bought herself 2 Macs {:-)
Today, during a visitation to another program, I was told that the Macs
have better graphic accelerator cards, and that IBMs sometimes need to be
restarted cause the card will 'ghost out'.
I know I'll be using PhotoShop. I am familiar with IBMs. I have
PhotoShop at home. So it seems, that aside from me purchasing a new Mac for
home use, it would be most practical to stick with the IBMS. I am aware that
'in the field' the graphic artists have traditionally used Macs. I want to
do the best in prepping my kids, so my basic question is : does the platform
really matter? Isn't the software basically the same?
You can respond off list if you like, but I'd appreciate some advice
specifics, cause, right now it sounds like a toss up.
Thanks,
Jude
