Vaseline

I've done plaster masks for about 15 years. I used to use vaseline but I had
more kids complain about the "greasey" feeling on their face than the
plaster. I have the partners put paper towel on their MOUTH 1st, then their
eyes, We still get lots of details. The plaster does not seep into their
eyes this wayand if their mouth is covered 1st, they can't complain.Have the
partners be very conscience about water dipping in their hair and ears, some
of these kids have art in the morning and have to go around looking pretty
bad for the rest of the day. Years ago I let the kids do their hand or
sometimes foot. Sometimes they would get plaster wrap happy and get them
very thick--my only stipulation was that - IF I had to take them to the
emergency room to get the "cast" sawed off, they got an F for the project.
It seemed to thin down the paster wrap. There is NO comparison between the
plastic masks and the real thing. I had one student get clostraphobic on me
and just about passed out, needless to say, she switched to the plastic
form. I have a couple on hand, just in case.
