How about taking a copy of their realistic drawings and cutting them with
scissors into straight line grids of varying sizes. Shift the grids slightly
and put it together showing the abstract (Cubist like) arrangement. Next
using paint and a color scheme of neutrals or reduced intensity colors, make
gradations like the cubist paintings of Braque and Picasso using small brush
strokes.
