Using scrap wood shapes (from a woodshop that are usually thrown away)
I let the children paint different patterns using acrylic paints on
the shapes. Each child had about 5 shapes. I then helped them (or
did it for them mostly) drilled holes in different places. The
students then "connected" the pieces with small dowel pieces, dipped
in elmer's glue--creating a sort of vertical abstract structure--Nancy
Graves style.
